On our recent romantic holiday to New York, my boyfriend and I checked out Death & Co.. A friend recommended this killer cocktail bar in East Village, and the name suggested that we were heading for something otherworldy or perhaps down to the depths of despair!
The oak wooden doors hide the goods behind, but the small plaque tells you you're at the right place. The doorman, who was far from gothic, told us there would be a wait and he would take our number to call us when there was space. Since we were Englishmen in New York, we got away with five minutes at the door...and then we were allowed behind the velvet curtain...

If you want to surprise your date, phone ahead (from 3pm) and make a reservation at PDT. Short for Please Don't Tell, this sexy East Village bar is accessed through a secret entrance: Crif Dogs. Your date will wonder why you have brought her to a hot dog joint...

New York is such an amazing city for a romantic getaway. But with all the options to choose from - where do you go to impress your girlfriend? If you are a creative, edgy person like me, this is the perfect New York boutique hotel for you and your fashionista girlfriend. I had such a great stay at the rock ’n’ roll retro Ace Hotel.
Hotels don't come much cooler than this. Each room is individually designed, featuring original art and quirky details.

Crosby Street Hotel has a Sunday night film club, with a 3 course dinner and a screening of a movie in their theater downstairs.
The art in the hotel is like a museum unto itself and the quaint hotel is tucked away on an utterly missable street in downtown New York.
Can't beat it for romance.
